Cebu City Supports the BPO Sector

Cebu City Government Supports the BPO Sector

Cebu City is one of the major cities in the Philippines where BPO (Business Processing Outsourcing) sector thrives. It is the biggest that houses BPO companies in the Visayas. These companies have provided hundreds of livelihoods and supported hundreds of families throughout the years.

With a new kind of leadership coming for the city of Cebu, and even the newly elected, Vice-Mayor, Tomas Osmeña has shared how the city intends to maintain its good relationship with BPO company and will continue supporting the BPO workforce. In a recent local report, he unveiled a comprehensive plan for the BPO sector, aiming to address some key challenges faced particularly by night shift employees.

All these imply that Cebu is still one of the most efficient and trusted cities in the world that can provide good quality outsourcing services for different businesses.

Cebu City Government Plans More Support for the BPO Sector

What Will Be Cebu’s Next Key Initiatives for This Plan?

“Mayor of the Night”

To accommodate BPO worker’s schedules, Osmeña proposes that government services should be made available 24/7. This would mean, access to essential transactions such as driver’s licenses and NBI clearances during non-traditional office hours.

One-stop Service Centers

Osmeña would like to create centralized hubs within Cebu Business Park and IT Park offering services from agencies like Land Transportation Office, National Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Pag-Ibig Fund, for the convenience in access for BPO workers.

Shuttle Bus System

This is a commuter shuttle system based on BPO workers’ input regarding home locations and work hours. The pilot program will start with three city-provided buses, with plans to expand through private partnerships and having a subscription model.

Communal Housing for Single Mothers

Osmeña also proposes a communal living facility for working single mothers in the BPO sector. With this is also providing shared transportation, childcare, and living expenses covered by partner companies. This is tailored from the Israeli kibbutz model, aiming to enhance productivity and financial security for single mothers.

Live-In Training Facility

A development will rise at South Road Properties for a live-in training center. This facility is set to offer out-of-school youth and other BPO workers without formal education opportunity to complete their studies and earn certifications and diplomas. It aims to upskill the workforce in response to AI advancements.

In maintaining the reputation pf Cebu as a home of top-quality outsourcing companies and assuring that BPO workers are well supported in their well-being, Osmeña is committed to make these plans into fruition.
